Weaving Story
Jamdani is a traditional handloom technique originating from Bengal, India, and it’s known for its intricate patterns and lightweight fabric.
The term “Jamdani” is derived from two Persian words: “Jam” (flower) and “Dani” (vase). The original weaving process is done on traditional pit looms. Each motif is woven separately using a discontinuous supplementary weft technique. Weavers use a tool called “Kandul” to create geometric and floral patterns.
Unlike regular weft weaving, where simple fabric is woven horizontally or in zig-zag patterns, Jamdani employs a complex symmetrical weft technique.
